Established in 1998, the Cal Women's Rugby Team is a
Tier - 1 Club Sport at the University of California,
Berkeley. The team competes in the highly competitive
Northern California Women's Collegiate Div. I league,
and has placed in the top 3 of the Pacific Coast
Region 4 out of the last 5 years.
In 2002 and 2005 the team earned a berth in the USA
Rugby round of 16 national Tournament and finished
10th in 2005, our highest finish yet.
The current roster consists of approximately 45
players, and the team fields two sides, a varsity
level side, and a reserves side during the competitive
season. New players' prior experience in rugby ranges
from none to 4 years of play in high school. The
team provides the opportunity for competitive play as
well as the development of rugby skills for players of
all experience levels.
The team has consistently had players named to the USA
Rugby Women's Collegiate All American squad, and in
2005 1 player was named to the 1st team, and two were
named to the 2nd team.
Players from the Cal women's Rugby team have also been
successful in select side play. Currently there are
former Cal players on the USA Rugby Women's National
Team, the Women's U23 National Team, and the Girls'
U19 National Team.
